NAATSIHWP is committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of the people we engage with through our programs and activities. Our way of operating is grounded in a rights-based approach, and the principle of ‘do no harm’ is central to our practice.
All people have the right to live free from harm, exploitation, and abuse and we seek to ensure that our actions uphold the dignity and rights of every individual. Our commitment to safeguarding is reflected in our stringent policies and procedures designed to ensure that our staff, partners, and associates adhere to the highest standards of behaviour.
We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to:
- racism and discrimination
- sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment
- fraud, corruption and bribery
- the abuse, neglect and exploitation of children and other vulnerable people.
Our safeguarding policies:
Ensure background checks and screening for all staff, and third-party providers.
- set out a clear code of conduct for all staff and associates.
- ensure that all staff and associates understand their safeguarding responsibilities
- provide for regular and mandatory training on safeguarding issues and
- encourage reporting and ensure safe and accessible reporting mechanism are in place.
NAATSIHWP continuously review and improve our policies and practices to ensure they remain effective and relevant. We are committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for everyone involved in our programs and activities.
How to Report a Safeguarding Concern
We have established a robust procedure for reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns. All reports are taken seriously and investigated.
If you have a safeguarding concern please inform us via our dedicated email: safeguarding@naatsihwp.org.au
Where possible reports should include, as appropriate, details of:
- the nature of the alleged issue
- the person or persons responsible
- the facts on which the report is founded
- the nature and whereabouts of the evidence required to substantiate the allegation, if known
All reports are treated with the utmost confidentiality. We respect the privacy of all individuals involved and ensure that information is only shared on a need-to-know basis. Counselling and support services are provided to those affected by safeguarding incidents.
Upon receiving a report, we will:
- Acknowledge receipt of the report within 24 hours.
- Conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.
- Take appropriate actions based on the findings, which may include disciplinary measures, reporting to
relevant authorities, and providing support to survivors.
If someone is in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services immediately.
