Professional Development

NAATSIHWP actively promotes education and career pathways and strengthens skills, qualifications, and competencies for our members across the country. We achieve this by providing a range of Professional Development activities, including, but not limited to, events, programs, forums and resources. Also, we influence development and implementation of policies to strengthen the professional capacity and capability of the Workforce.

NAATSIHWP has developed and tested two complementary resources to strengthen and guide Scopes of Practice for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners across Australia: the Professional Scopes of Practice Resource and National Framework for Determining Scope of Practice.

Our day-long Regional Professional Development Forums offer an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, Health Practitioners and other interested health sector staff to come together to discuss regional priorities, develop new skills and network with key health stakeholders.

The NAATSIHWP CPD Endorsement Program is designed to enhance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers' and Practitioners' knowledge, skills, and abilities through active participation in both formal and informal learning. It aligns with previous and current activities NAATSIHWP has undertaken to grow and sustain the profession and workforce.

The Biennial NAATSIHWP Professional Development Symposium gathering is the largest on NAATSIHWP’s professional development calendar providing a platform for knowledge sharing, career enhancement, and networking for our Full and Student Members.

The Biennial NAATSIHWP National Conference gathering provides a significant opportunity to showcase and honour the deadly work of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners to a broader audience.
